Study methods

Assessments

Students are assessed against specific performance criteria for each unit of study. This course has engaging ways of learning and assessment which includes journal writing, case studies, group presentation, assignments, role play, online learning, self-paced learning packages, short answer, and multi-choice questions.

 

Work Placement

To complete full qualification students must complete the 40 hours of work placement. This will need to be organised by the school and supported by Mayfield Education.

HLT33115 Certificate Iii In Health Services Assistance

To obtain the full Certificate III in Health Services Assistance – HLT33115, students must satisfactorily complete a total of fifteen (15) units of competency. The course is made up of seven (7) core units and eight (8) elective units.

Unit 1 & 2 (year 1 units)

HLTINF006 – Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control 
HLTWHS001 – Participate in workplace health and safety 
BSBWOR301 – Organise personal work priorities and development 
CHCCCS020 – Respond effectively to behaviours of concern 
CHCCCS002 – Assist with movement
CHCCCS012 – Prepare and maintain beds
CHCCS026 – Transport individuals
HLTHSS009 – Perform general cleaning tasks in a clinical setting 
HLTHSS007 – Handle medical gasses safely
CHCDIV001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation 

*UNIT 3 & 4 – YEAR 2 PROPOSED UNITS (SUBJECT TO VICTORIAN CURRICULUM AND ASSESSMENT AUTHORITY (VCCA) APPROVAL)

BSBMED301 – Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately 
HLTAAP001 – Recognised healthy body systems
HLTHPS001 – Take clinical measurements

Credit Towards

VPC: Each completed 90-hour block of VET equals one VPC credit.

VCE/VCE VM: Recognition of two VCE VET units at Unit 1&2 level, a scored VCE VET Unit 3-4 sequence and an additional non-scored VCE VET Unit 3-4 sequence.

Upon satisfactory completion of all units of this course, a student may attain a national qualification

Note: Students are strongly advised against undertaking the scored Unit 3-4 sequence without first completing Units 1&2 because Unit 3-4 sequences are not designed for standalone study

Equipment and dress requirements

Students are required to bring a laptop to each class to complete and access work on the online learning platform

Neat casual (no singlets/cropped tops, no rips in pants) or your school uniform can be worn.

Closed-toe shoes must be worn to adhere to work safety requirements.
